Shout Week-Feb. 8-12
SHOUT Week (Students Helping OUT) begins on Monday, Feb. 8th and the Student Leadership Council has planned many activities to raise funds to help support Blessed Trinity Leadership Academy in Akokoamong, Ghana. The school, sponsored by the Daughters of the Most Blessed Trinity (a Ghanaian religious order) and the Sisters of Loretto, opened this fall with pre-k, kindergarten and first grade students. 40 students are enrolled currently and many more in the area would love to attend as soon as the school can accommodate them.
Help support SHOUT week by dining out at Weber's Front Row in Webster all day and night on Monday, February 8. Weber's is donating a percentage of all profits to SHOUT week. Weber's is located on Big Bend just across the street from Nerinx Hall. So, bring friends and family and help support our cause! You must present the attached flyer in order for Nerinx to receive the proceeds.

Shop Til You Drop!
Ever bought a lottery ticket? If so, you've probably become aware, through experience, that the odds of being a jackpot winner are approximately 1 in 14,000,000. That's promising.
So, to give you a little more hope in miracles, the Marketing class is presenting you with a raffle opportunity where your odds of winning are 1 in only 375! All you have to do is buy a single shopping raffle ticket for a good chance of winning a $2,500 Visa gift card! You may also pitch in a smaller amount to a group ticket and win a portion of the gift card.
Just send your daughter to school with a check for $30 made out to Nerinx Hall and ask her to give it to Mrs. Winters. Please write your daughter's first and last name at the top of the check so that she can give her the ticket at school. The winner will be announced at AuctioNerinx on March 13, but you do not need to be present to win. Good luck!

On January 31, 2010, the 1979 Southwest Missouri State Women's Field Hockey Team was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in Springfield, Missouri. Nerinx Hall Athletic Director, Nancy Milward, was a member of this team, which won the National Championship in 1979 at Princeton University against Colgate University. The team finished the 1979 season with a record of 28-2. Congratulations Mil!
And, congratulations to seniors Ellen Augsburger, Lauren Boland, and Kate Sellenriek who were honored at the Metro Woman's Athletic Association dinner as Skippy Keefer Participation and Sportsmanship Award Nominees. All three of these students have played at least two sports each year at Nerinx and have demonstrated sportsmanship and good citizenship on and off the field. Great job, girls!
Shakespeare and The CityWe are proud to announce that junior, Caroline Amos, won first place among the 11 schools that participated in the regional Shakespeare competition, sponsored by the English Speaking Union on Saturday, February 13, at Webster University. She will go to New York City in April to compete on the National level--all expenses paid. The English Speaking Union is an international organization that promotes literature and the study of the English Language.

National Merit Scholarship FinalistsCongratulations to seniors Mary Craven, Suzanne Hart, Meredith Starrs, and Emily Wich who were recently named National Merit Finalists. Last fall these students were recognized as National Merit Semifinalists because they were among the top scorers in the state of Missouri on the 2008 PSAT/NMSQT. To advance to Finalist standing, students must meet specified requirements, which include having a record of consistently very high academic performance in all of grades 9 through 12, earning a score on the SAT consistent with performance on the 2008 PSAT, and receiving full endorsement from their high school.

Roses Are Red......Congratulations to Nerinx senior, Chris Soucy, who was selected as the winner of the 2010 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Observance Celebration Poetry Contest at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Chris received the award for her poem, "The Summons," at a luncheon on February 9.
